Henry Moore: Mother and Child


Sketch in pencil at Two Temple Place, Sussex Modernisn exhibition, about 40 minutes. 

Statue by Henry Moore in Green Horton Stone, 1936-7, now in Leeds Museums and Galleries.  It was originally in the garden of Farley Farm, Sussex. Curation states: 

This symbol of enduring fertility attracted protests from his neighbours’

Stormy Seas, Raft

“Found image”, after wiping an etching plate.
I’m pleased at how the shape of this plate is articulate of a horizontal rectangle, even with no other clues. The black ink round the plate looks to me like the sea. But perhaps that’s just wishful thinking.

Three Etchings

Three etchings made today at a course at East London Printmakers.
The ones of the men and the landscape are made with “soft ground”. The ‘Bread and wine’ was a line drawing etched using hard ground, and then the patterns went on in soft ground in two later dips.
