Watercolour sticks – July 2018

Winsor and Newton waxy watercolour sticks in old cigarette box

 

These are Winsor and Newton watercolour sticks. They are quite waxy, so once the colour is on, the ink won’t go on top of it, certainly not if the colour is thick.

But they are very good for getting a lot of colour on quickly. I am experimenting. If I wet the paper first, the colour is very intense – and difficult to control.

Also it’s possible to hold them and take the watercolour off with a wet brush, although that’s very messy. The paint gets on my fingers – and it’s a very strong colour, so it gets on everything.

These sticks are quite new, so they still have the covering paper on.
